Whether you have very fine hair that needs to grow in length and strength, or you have hair loss due to age or genetics, both women and men can be afflicted with the burden of balding. Using properties found in nature, there are ways to make natural remedies for your hair loss. Garlic is only one example of this.

Garlic contains selenium and sulfur, which are two common compounds found in numerous treatments for dandruff, and dermatitis prescriptions from your doctor. Found within garlic, they can strengthen the structure of your hair, allowing lost hair to replenish, and existing hair to become fortified. Within each clove of garlic are vitamins and minerals that can also condition your hair while protecting each strand. Here are some ways you can use garlic to help with your hair loss:

Homemade Garlic Balm Recipe

This balm combines the medicinal properties of honey, with the healing aspects of aloe vera and chamomile, to mix with garlic for optimal hair strengthening.

What you’ll need

  • 6-8 Cloves of Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 24 oz Chamomile Tea
  • 1 Egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp Aloe vera

The first thing you need to do is use a garlic press juice your cloves, until you have a full tablespoon (you may or may not need to juice more cloves until you get there). You can refrigerate the pressed garlic, and save it for your next meal. Combine the honey with the garlic juice, and place the mixture in the fridge.

Brew your chamomile tea on your stovetop for 30 minutes, and then transfer to a cup. Mix your egg yolk into the garlic and honey mixture, then add the aloe vera. Rub the balm on your scalp, and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse your hair thoroughly with gentle shampoo, and once it is all removed, rinse your hair again, but with the chamomile tea.

Garlic Juice & Coconut Oil Recipe

Combining the anti-fungal, and conditioning properties of the coconut oil with the benefits of garlic will help restore your hair.

What you’ll need

  • 1 tbsp Garlic Juice
  • 1 tbsp Coconut Oil

Mix equal parts of garlic juice and coconut oil together, until they are well combined. This process can be easier if the coconut oil is either at room temperature, or warmed slightly when adding the garlic juice. Massage the mixture into your scalp, and leave it on for 20 minutes before washing it out with gentle shampoo.

Pure Garlic Oil Recipe

You can put garlic oil straight onto your scalp, in order to give your hair the curative properties that garlic offers.

What you’ll need

  • 2 tbsp Pure Garlic Oil

Warm up the garlic oil until it is at a comfortable temperature, and massage into your scalp. You can a lesser or greater amount of oil if needed, as long as it is evenly spread throughout the roots of your hair. Keep on for at least 20 minutes before rinsing out.

These garlic hair loss remedies can help anyone who is suffering from weak, thinning, or balding hair. Using them twice weekly will increase your chance of seeing longer and stronger hair.

Mix With Shampoo and Conditioner

Garlic can be added to your regular shampoo and conditioner to give your hair an extra fighting chance against hair loss. Simply add it to your shampoo or conditioner to make sure that you evenly and regularly apply it to your hair.

What you’ll need

  • Your regular shampoo
  • 1 – 2 tbsp garlic oil

Simply open your regular bottle of shampoo and conditioner, adding 1 – 2 tbsp of garlic oil. Make sure that you mix it around (with a knife, fork, or anything else that works) so that it is even and consistent. This way, whenever you shampoo, you’ll be applying some of the garlic as well.

Garlic and Honey Recipe

You can even use raw garlic to help your hair if you mix it into your shampoo or with honey. Since honey and garlic have many complementary characteristics and nutrients, the mixture is ideal for giving you the strength to fight hair loss.

garlic and honey recipe

What you’ll need

  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 1 – 2 tsp of water
  • 3 – 4 cloves of garlic (or 2 tsp of garlic oil)

Start by heating up some honey in a pot or pan. After it’s warmed, add some cloves of garlic or your garlic oil, mixing it so it’s even throughout. Once you think it’s even, you can take the mixture off the burning stove so it can cool down a bit.

With the mixture still warm, apply gently to your scalp and massage into your hair and scalp lightly. Let it sit briefly before rinsing it out completely.

Natural and Organic

One of the best advantages of using garlic on your hair is that it’s completely natural and organic, containing no extra or harmful chemicals. Instead, you know that what you’re applying to your hair and scalp is simply giving you the added nutrients you need to ensure that you hair can grow full, rich, and healthy.

The reason using natural ingredients like this is so important is because these products have less negative impact on your hair over time. Chemicals, while helping in the short run, damage and destroy your hair over the long haul. On the contrary, natural products foster long-term growth and health, providing the nutrients your hair and scalp need.

Consistent Treatment and Care

When using natural products, it’s important to remember that the results won’t happen overnight. It takes time to establish the foundation for proper care, which is what you’ll get by using natural ingredients on your hair like this. Better still, you’ll make sure to set yourself up for the long-term health of your hair.

If you’re using garlic in your hair – either on it’s own or as part of a mixture – you’ll likely want to do it about 2 or 3 times a week. This will make sure that your hair and scalp consistently get what they need and that your hair grows regularly and combats the effects of hair loss and thinning.
